Hundreds of community members came together through a community engagement program called PACT (Planning A Course Together). During Step One of PACT, volunteers from every part of our community spent more than a year studying the challenges we face and developing a set of solutions. These community volunteers put a tremendous amount of work into a set of recommendations presented to the St. Joseph School District (SJSD) Board of Education in June, 2011.
Before the recommendations from Step One of PACT are put into action, we want to hear your voice. As we take the next steps with PACT, we’re sharing every detail of the recommendations with every member of our community, and we’re asking you to tell us how the plan can be improved. We urge you to review these recommendations carefully and, above all, tell us how we can make them better.
Our experience with the PACT process has shown us how powerful our community can be when everyone works together. For the sake of our families, our friends and our neighbors, we must make sure that we have a successful plan. Please give us your comments, your questions and your commitment to a better tomorrow for our schools and our community.
Sincerely,
PACT Community Co-Chairs

Community Engagement Sessions
During Step One, PACT held 12 Community Engagement Sessions, which were open to the general public, covering topics ranging from Facilities to Technology, Early Childhood Education, School Finance and Quality Staffing. You can view the presentations and documents from each session, as well as the feedback gathered from the community and a video of each presentation on the Step One PACT website under Community Engagement Sessions.
Building Evaluations
During Step One, PACT led a comprehensive evaluation of the facilities. You can check the process followed and results of that work on the Step One PACT website under Building Evaluations and Facilities Findings, respectively. Local architects, in collaboration with nationally recognized experts in school design, developed options for a Draft Master Facilities Plan, which was presented for feedback.
Survey Results
During Step One, PACT conducted a survey of over 500 community members on a wide variety of topics facing our community that directly and indirectly impact the school district. The results can be viewed on the Step One PACT website under Survey Results.
